Here are five of the most common questions people ask before joining a pottery class.
1. Do I need any prior experience?
Not at all. Many of our students are complete beginners. We start with the basics and build up from there. If you already have some experience, we’ll give you tailored guidance to improve your technique.
2. Do I need to bring materials or tools?
Everything is provided in our studio: clay, tools, wheels, glazes, and firing service. Just bring clothes you don’t mind getting a little messy, but we also have an apron for you. And if you have long hair, bring a clip or hairband.
3. How long does it take to feel confident on the wheel?
That varies from person to person. Most students create their first small bowl or cup in their very first session. With practice, your movements become smoother, and over time you’ll develop real confidence with clay.
4. How does the firing and glazing process work – and how long does it take?
After you make your pieces on the wheel, they must dry before they can be bisque fired at 950 °C. Then they’re glazed by us and glaze-fired at 1240°C. The whole process usually takes 5-6 weeks, depending on drying time and kiln capacity.
5. What if I miss a class or session?
Life happens! If you miss a class, we’ll try to arrange a solution – such as making up the time in an open studio session or joining another group if possible. Just let us know in advance.
