What You’ll Learn in Our Pottery Classes

Our pottery classes are designed to give you both technical skills and artistic freedom. Depending on the course model you choose — Try the Wheel, 2-Day Wheel, or Intensive Wheel — you’ll experience different levels of depth and practice.

Try the Wheel

  • Introduction to working with clay: how to prepare it and what to avoid
  • Basic wheel-throwing techniques: centering, opening, and pulling up the walls.
  • First forms: bowls, cups, and small vessels. Or anything the clay decides.
  • Color: pick your favorite glaze colors for each piece.

2-Day Wheel

  • Building on the basics: tips for centering and achieving even walls.
  • More complex forms: larger vessels, matching sets and specific ideas.
  • Trimming: fine tuning your shapes and adding a nice bottom, foot rings or texture.
  • Color: pick your favorite glazes.
  • Understanding the process: what happens after throwing and trimming, how high do we fire, what is glazing and how long does it take to finish your ceramics.

Intensive Wheel (and mini)

  • Immersive training: plenty of hours on the wheel, repeated practice, and individual feedback.
  • Trimming: giving your pieces a nice finish, adding textures, handles and your own touch.
  • Glazing: experimenting with different glazing techniques, combinations, troubleshooting glaze issues and creative expression.
  • From start to finish: at the end, you’ll have a collection or a signature pieces that reflects your creativity and new skills.
